04.10.24
Together with colleagues from CSV, DP, and Déi Lénk, we placed the economic summit on the agenda to advocate for opposition involvement in this crucial event. Through a joint motion, we managed to achieve openings for the future.
Additionally, we raised questions regarding the management of the outdoor swimming pool, dog swimming sessions, and the snack bar. We received a general report on the season, with questions on safety, the snack bar, and waste management being addressed.
11.11.24
We submitted a motion proposing the installation of temporary gardens (Jardins Ephemères) for summer 2025, aligned with the LUGA exhibition. Unfortunately, only Déi Lénk supported this motion. While we regret that the council didn’t initially support our initiative, we welcome the fact that the council of aldermen implemented it later.
Our queries to the council of aldermen about the Shared Space focused on barriers and enforcement of the car-free Niddeschgaass. We also requested further awareness-raising measures for summer 2025 and inquired about the status of the survey conducted concerning the city center.
13.12.24
Various sidewalks in our municipality are inaccessible or hazardous, particularly for strollers and individuals with limited mobility, due to stairs and inadequate safety separations from the street. We asked the council of aldermen whether accessibility laws are being respected, if they are aware of the situation, what measures are planned, and if an inventory of sidewalks could be conducted.
The Klima-Agence launched the 2nd edition of the Solar Challenge to encourage municipalities, citizens, and companies to produce more solar energy and remove existing barriers. In this context, we wanted to know which projects the municipality submitted to raise public awareness, why the environmental commission wasn’t consulted beforehand, and what specific measures are planned to effectively mobilize local stakeholders.
Creating a subsidy for the Interrail Youth Pass as an 18th birthday gift is an excellent opportunity to explore Europe. We requested clarification from the council of aldermen regarding the timeframe of our motionabout the Interrail Pass and insisted on consistent and transparent implementation of the commission’s decisions. The motion had already been presented to the council on June 14, 2024. Our persistence enabled us to reach a compromise with the majority at the end of March for a subsidy of €200, valid for two years.
During the budget debate, our amendment successfully increased the participatory budget, enabling a fifth project to be accepted and implemented.
14.02.25
The crossing from Parc Le’h to the Wal forest is extremely dangerous, especially for pedestrians and cyclists who must cross a state road near a motorway entrance. We inquired about the progress of the feasibility study promised by the council of aldermen to find a safe solution and the current state of discussions between the municipality and ministry. We also suggested potential financing options via the Ministry of Tourism or European funding.
We also asked about the planned direct train connections to the city every 15 minutes starting in 2027, and whether the municipality had updates from CFL regarding the removal of barriers in Dudelange. Additionally, we were interested in the related cycling path project.
The Tiny Forests project, budgeted for several years, aims to strengthen biodiversity and raise environmental awareness among residents. We requested an update on the project’s status, locations considered, any progress made, and reasons for current delays.
31.03.25
In a motion, we urged the council of aldermen to align the upcoming school organization with the curriculum, particularly regarding the legally required number of weekly physical education hours. Since the municipality is responsible for ensuring children in cycles 2 and 3 receive three hours of sports per week, we wanted assurance this was feasible for both teachers and students. The motion was unanimously adopted.
05.05.25
After noticing increasing bicycle thefts despite locks, we asked the council of aldermen about their plans to enhance the security of bicycle parking facilities. The issue with the bicycle racks used by the municipality was unknown to the council, but they promised checks.
Regarding the « a Bëlleg » neighborhood, we asked about the regularization of car parking spaces and the status of playgrounds in the new area. We received confirmation that the playgrounds were not yet publicly accessible, and the equipment safety was under review. Parking has since been regularized.
13.06.25
Following reports by Reporter.lu about a corruption case involving a former municipal employee in Dudelange, we joined Déi Lénk and CSV in questioning how the employee could engage in external activities for so long, what his performances and remuneration entailed for the municipality, details of the disciplinary procedure, and what next steps the municipality could undertake. Unanimously, it was decided to examine possible legal actions and claims for damages.
18.07.25
Currently, small, individual, moveable photovoltaic installations, such as those suitable for balconies, are not being promoted despite being an ideal solution for apartment residents or renters. We urged the council of aldermen to develop an action plan for financial support of these installations. The aim is to simplify implementation in Dudelange. The absolute majority rejected the motion, deferring discussion to later in the year within a commission.
During the heatwave at the beginning of July, the council of aldermen decided to suspend compulsory schooling in the afternoons during red alerts and to close municipal services early. We do not question these decisions, as safety is paramount. However, we found the communication to be last-minute and therefore asked if a « heatwave plan » exists to ensure clarity and predictability, given the expected increase in extreme weather events due to climate change.
We noticed council members were not included in the « all user » email distribution list used by municipal staff. Since we consider it essential to stay informed about internal communications, we sought clarification about this exclusion and requested information on who decides what information council members receive through online tools like the intranet and SharePoint.
Additional Focus Areas in our Interventions:
Supporting the new Baltzeng school and daycare project, particularly by advocating for an immediate traffic-calming pilot phase in this area, ensuring safe pedestrian, bicycle, and scooter access for children without having to cross dangerous shortcuts.
